A Quick Note From Kyle...

One of the most overlooked parts of the job search happens after the interview ends.
Many candidates walk out of an interview believing the most important part is over. In reality, there is still one more opportunity to reinforce your professionalism, your interest in the role, and the value you bring.
This week’s edition focuses on something simple but powerful: the interview follow-up that gets remembered.

Job Search Insight of the Week

The Interview Follow-Up That Gets Remembered

The interview doesn’t end when you leave the room.

The follow-up message is your opportunity to reinforce the impression you made during the conversation and remind the employer why you’re the right candidate.

A strong follow-up should:

• Thank the interviewer for their time
• Reinforce your enthusiasm for the role
• Reference something discussed in the interview
• Reaffirm how your experience aligns with the position

This message should be brief, thoughtful, and personal.

Too many candidates skip this step or send a generic message that adds no value. A well-written follow-up, however, can strengthen the connection you made and keep you top of mind when hiring decisions are being made.

From the Book: Get the Job You Love

In Get the Job You Love, I emphasize the importance of follow-up as part of professional etiquette and as a strategic step in the hiring process.

As I write in the book:

“Send ‘thank you’ notes within 12 hours after the interview or even sooner if you can to every person you interviewed with. This is not only an opportunity to build upon the rapport you’ve established during the interview, but it is another opportunity to sell yourself for the role. In addition, not sending a ‘thank you’ note may derail your prospects as it is still seen by many as an important aspect of professional decorum.”

A thoughtful follow-up message shows professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine interest in the role — all qualities employers value.
